In fact, the National Association of Home Builders (#NAHB) said this tied for the highest level in their 35 year history, which was previously made in Dec. 1998 (nearly 22 years ago). The association's chairman went on to say "housing continues to lead the economy forward."

The HMI now stands at its highest reading in the 35-year history of the series, matching the record that was set in December 1998.
